  • Enjoy people and service to others
  • Execute the election laws in a non-partisan manner
  • Be eligible to work in any of our ten (10) precincts
  • Attend the school of instruction class (mandatory)
  • Take an oath to support the Constitution and laws of the United States, and the laws of the State of Tennessee, and that you will faithfully and impartially discharge the duties that you have been appointed to do.

What are the responsibilities of a poll worker?

You will be trained according to your job title as a poll worker. Job titles are - officer of elections, registrar, machine operator,  or judge and each will have certain duties, but you must work together as a team.  You will report at your assigned precinct on time  election day and prepare to do the following:
  • Prepare the precinct for voting
  • Help set up voting equipment if needed
  • Greet the voters
  • Provide the voter with the appropriate ballot
  • Report any problems to the election office promptly
  • At the close of the day, prepare election materials for delivery to the election office
If you are interested in working as an Election Official on Election Day, please call the Election Commission at (865) 828-5132 for more information.
